Although it’s frustrating to submit your resume to IT staffing firms or direct clients without hearing back, it’s critical to get your information to as many databases as possible. Searching for an IT job is a numbers game, the more databases you submit your resume to, the better odds that you’ll receive a call one day from an IT recruiter with that perfect job.
When IT recruiters are looking through databases, they typically search by keywords. If you check one of our earlier articles, you can check out the tips our IT recruiter gave on putting the right skill keywords in your resume. Therefore, before you submit your resume to that next database, make sure you list as many technical key words that you have experience with as possible (without fabricating of course).
Finally, make sure that all your information is accurate and consistent. One pet peeve IT recruiters have is searching through a database and finding the exact same resume with a slightly different name. By having different names you will obviously confuse IT recruiters, it could hurt your credibility and subsequently your chance to land that perfect technical job.

Recent reports have concluded that the US recession will continue until 2011. Therefore, how are we going to get IT jobs for all those unemployed workers in the US? One option that seems to be working for many is turning to IT recruiting agencies.
As an IT recruiter for an IT Staffing Company, you will hear about new IT job positions that need to be filled. Most of our clients will turn to an IT recruiting company for prospective candidates before advertising the position to the outside world. They know that if they immediately post that job online, they will receive hundreds of resumes from job seekers. Subsequently, the IT manager will have to dedicate hours to sorting through resumes. Typically there just aren’t enough hours in the day.
Instead, IT recruiters put in long hours and typically review hundreds of resumes for each position. This is their job and their days are dedicated to doing such. Additionally, IT recruitment firms typically have robust databases of passive and active candidates that might not have responded to a client’s IT job posting. This helps ensure the client is getting the best possible candidate for their position.
So next time you are looking for an IT job position or need to fill one, contact an IT Staffing Agency like AVID Technical Resources.

IT recruiting companies need to be aware of where their IT staffing competitors are looking for candidates as well as where candidates are posting their resumes themselves. You may think everyone is just using job boards such as Monster or CareerBuilder, but there are many more options depending on what specific IT staffing industry you are looking at. Some of these options are websites such as LinkedIn and Twitter that are now being used for networking instead of socializing. Others include niche websites and/or those specific to local geographies.
So how do you choose the right place to look for candidates to fill IT jobs? To start, you need to test some of these websites out. During the trial period it would be a good idea to keep track of where the candidates are coming from. This will help you decide how many candidates you got from each IT job board and the quality of the candidates coming from each. Once you gather your data, you will be able to analyze each IT job board based on metrics IT recruiting companies keep in mind.
Put yourself in the candidate’s shoes and think about where they are looking for IT jobs

You have just interviewed for that perfect IT job, now what do you do? Send a thank you note. Typically, you should send a thank you note to every person you meet with. It not only thanks the interview(s) for their time, it also reinforces your interest in the position. If you interviewed through a technical recruiting company, then send the Thank You note to your IT recruiter.
Here are some tips that our IT staffing company offers for writing Thank You notes:
- Like it or not, email is the standard form of communication these days. It not only is efficient, it pretty much guarantees delivery (with proof of delivery). However, a personal note shows that you go above and beyond, so don’t shy away from writing a note. Therefore, check your handwriting. If you have illegible handwriting make sure you type the note so that the interviewer will be able to read what you have to say.
- Spell Check. Spelling or grammatical errors will damage your credibility. Also make sure you spell each recipient’s name correctly.
- Take notes during the interview. Reference some of the topics/items that you discussed in the IT job interview.
- Reiterate your experience. Remind the interviewer why you are a good fit for the IT job.
- Send the Thank You note the same day – no exceptions!

IT recruiters are constantly looking for candidates to fill positions for IT jobs. They go through resume after resume looking for qualifications. However, a resume can only say so much. The important piece to any successful IT job placement is communication. Build a relationship with IT recruiters and use a few different IT staffing agencies that you feel comfortable with. Let the IT recruiter get a sense of your personality and the kind of environment you are looking for in an IT job. The more they know about you, the more accurate they can be with their IT job opportunities.
Be open and honest with the IT recruiter and expect the same in return. Set expectations from the start.
In addition, keep in touch with the IT recruiter, as it will help make you stand out and ensure he or she turns to you first when the appropriate IT job opens up. Additionally, finding a new IT job is all about networking. IT recruiters are networking on a daily basis, by connecting with them (ie Linkedin); you’re significantly increasing your personal network as well.

IT recruiting companies uncover IT jobs of all different levels and skill sets. IT Recruiters, then have to look for a candidate that best matches the requirements. In today’s economy, many hiring managers are looking for a wish list of technologies and experience. Because of the high unemployment rate, clients tend to think there are highly qualified candidates available at a discounted price. Some of this it true. However, even in the recent recession, highly skilled IT professionals have found new jobs or their companies find a way to keep them. Therefore, it’s important for IT staffing agencies to manager their client’s expectations with every new requirement.
By managing a client’s expectations, the IT recruiter is providing honest and accurate information so the hiring manager can plan accordingly. For example, if the hiring manager is looking for a niche skill set, yet needs the person to start immediately, he or she needs to know that it might take days or even more than a week for the IT recruiting firm to identify the right candidate. Another example: if the client is looking for someone with a hot technology, yet their budgeted rate is low, the IT recruiter needs to educate them as to what skill-level they will realistically will get for their money. Final example, if the hiring manager has an immediate need, and the IT recruiter identifies a candidate with multiple irons in the fire, then they need to know that time is of the essence.
These are just a few examples of managing a client’s expectations. Regardless of the situation, an open, honest, relationship makes for a strong business partnership between the IT recruiter and the hiring manager.
