Position Description
- Manage research and development efforts related to embedded systems and contribute to software (C/C++ and Python) development across common low-power microprocessor families (PIC, ARM, etc.).
- Review and maintain electrical hardware design (understand schematics, probe signals, and debug embedded systems) as part of ongoing system development, support, and optimization efforts.
- Collaborate with researchers on the implementation of real-time signal processing and control algorithms using various sensors and actuators.
- Maintain and improve the Move Lab electrical engineering facilities. This includes standard EE laboratory tools (oscilloscopes, power supplies, soldering stations), computer lab(s), and flexible design/project spaces.
- Assist in the development and updating of Standard Operating Procedures for all lab equipment.
- Participate in custom circuit design and PCB layouts in collaboration with other project team members and interface with outside vendors to perform detail design and fabricate necessary components.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field.
- Minimum 4 years’ of related work experience. Advanced education in a related field may count towards experience.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
- 6+ years of related experience preferred
- Experience with RTOS and embedded systems with hard real-time requirements
- Proficiency in C/C++, Python, and MATLAB
- Experience with communication protocols like SPI, I2C, CAN, UART and USB CAN, Bluetooth, and USB
- Experience using embedded Linux is a plus
- Knowledge in analog and digital circuit design, PCB layout, and device performance simulation
- Knowledge and experience working with manufacturing sources and component vendors is a plus
- Enthusiasm for supporting open-ended interdisciplinary engineering design projects
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. In particular, competence in generating straightforward technical documentation such as lab procedures, protocols, and reports
- Strong organizational skills, creativity in problem solving, and high self-motivation are key to performing effectively in this position
- Ability and willingness to tackle multiple projects simultaneously and performing effectively as part of a team and in a highly self-directed environment is essential
- Ability to translate stakeholder input (e.g. from clinical partners, technical team, end users, and industry representatives) into high level and low level system requirements
- Experience working in an active learning environment is a plus (hands-on skills teaching, tutoring, and/or mentoring)
