Overview
AVID Technical Resources is partnering with a well-established Boston-based organization to place a Senior Windows Systems Administrator / Domain Engineer for a focused Active Directory infrastructure upgrade project. This is a high-impact engagement for a contractor who thrives in complex enterprise environments and brings hands-on domain upgrade expertise.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead an Active Directory domain upgrade from Windows Server 2019 to Windows Server 2025
- Deploy and configure 5 new Domain Controllers using VMware virtualization resources
- Conduct thorough testing in a Dev environment prior to Production cutover
- Manage Forest upgrade, FSMO role transfers, and DNS reconfiguration
- Maintain and create Group Policy Objects (GPOs), OUs, and domain structures
- Handle Kerberos authentication and CA certificate management throughout the upgrade
- Write custom scripts to support automation and configuration tasks
- Collaborate effectively with internal IT professionals throughout the project lifecycle
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years managing Active Directory in a mid-to-large enterprise environment
- Strong expertise with Windows Server 2019, 2022, and 2025
- Proven experience with Active Directory domain/forest upgrades
- Solid Group Policy (GPO) creation and management skills
- Experience with FSMO role management, Kerberos, Windows DNS, and CA certificates
- Familiarity with Ansible and/or Jenkins a plus
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical discipline
Work Arrangement
This position is hybrid after an initial on-site probation/training period (typically 3–4 weeks). Following that period, up to 50% remote work is available. Local candidates strongly preferred — on-site availability during the probationary period is a non-negotiable requirement.
