VP of IT

Who does a VP of IT report to? A VP of Information Technology role will usually report to the CTO.

What does a VP of IT Do?
This role is often a stepping stone to a CIO position.  The VP of IT will be responsible for the majority of a company’s IT operations.  This includes planning what technologies a company uses (based on the company’s needs and budget), as well as overseeing the implementation and maintenance of them.  Relatedly, a VP of IT ensures that his employers experience minimum downtime with any of the technologies they are using.  This position usually requires a Master of Arts in Computer Science or Information technology and extensive years of experience in computer operations, programming, and system design to ensure a comprehensive base of hands-on knowledge.
