Instead of applying to current IT jobs on a company’s website, he sent his resume to HR with a cover letter explaining that he’s applying to future positions that he predicts they will need.
If you are going to companies and making propositions for new job positions that do not exist, you will definitely stick out (hopefully for good reasons as opposed to bad). The IT managers at the corporation may begin thinking about whether they will need someone in that role down the line and may even consider you first over others. It might be a stretch, but at least the foresight might set you apart from the competition.
The Information Technology industry is a constantly changing environment that is always looking for the latest best/most efficient software or hardware. Therefore, it’s up to you to stay current with what new technologies and gadgets have been introduced to the public. This will allow you to better predict what types of IT jobs that IT recruiting companies and direct clients will be sourcing for in the near future.
