Keeping it Simple on a Resume

It may be that time again when you as an high-tech professional are thinking about whether this IT job you currently have is worth it or you may just want to update your resume.  Regardless of your reasons, you need to always think about keeping your qualifications to 1-2 pages maximum.  The simpler the better.

Hiring managers and IT recruiters want to find the best candidate possible for the IT job as quickly as possible.  This means they are going to be looking at dozens, sometimes hundreds, of resumes.  Eventually they will begin to blur with so much text on a sheet of paper.  So how do you keep them from skimming your resume?

Make sure everything is easily readable.  Don’t make the font too small or have long paragraphs explaining everything you did at a company.  Utilize bullets.  You want to make write your skills and responsibilities as straight to the point as possible.  In addition, you want to make sure that the skills made an impact on your project initiatives.

Another aspect is putting in keywords and technologies.  In the IT staffing industry, IT recruiters rely heavily on searching resume databases by key words.  IT managers want to know that you have the right skills for the IT job.  So why not make it easier for them and list them out using the appropriate names for them.  This will allow hiring managers and IT recruiters to easily ctrl+ f your resume document online to find the appropriate skills for the IT job.

Remember to keep these tips in mind when updating your resume.  As an IT professional, you can always get a second opinion on your resume from local IT staffing companies like AVID Technical Resources.

Which technology systems will you be buying this year?

Recently there have been many games coming out for the Playstation 3 and XBOX 360.  These allow you to mimic many of the movements you would be able to have on the Wii.  So for those who enjoy shooting games or aerobic activity, you can now share the systems with the rest of the family without buying another system.

So will these accessories attract the interactive gamers? Well they have been creating interactive games on these systems that are similar to games that had come out before.  For example, there is a new dance game on the XBOX 360 that requires you to learn dance moves and mimic them to gain points.  This is very similar to the DDR game that had come out a long time ago.  The best part of this new accessory is that all you need is your body.  This simplifies and makes it easier for the player to enjoy the game without worrying about which buttons to press or which accessories they need to play the game like the Wii controllers.

IT recruiting companies are providing a number of high-tech IT consultants to numerous local Boston-based gaming companies such as Harmonix, Turbine, 38 Studios and Blue Fang GamesThese companies are frantically trying to keep up with the consumer demands and our country’s appetite for video games.

The PS3 went and created a controller similar to the Nintendo Wii that will allow you to play similar games like golf and tennis by using your body movements.  Again this means that you can enjoy interactive games along with your extreme gamer games like Assassins Creed.

Overall, out of the three systems, you will be able to use the PS3 the most because of the blu ray player.  You won’t have to spend the extra money for a new player and a video game system.

Predicting the Information Technology Future

IT recruiters are constantly working to keep up with all the new changes in the Information Technology industry so they can not only remain educated with their candidates, but be more efficient in their jobs.  High-tech professionals must do the same.  However, one of our IT recruiters Boston recently read about a high-tech person who took it a step further.  Instead of applying to current IT jobs on a company’s website, he sent his resume to HR with a cover letter explaining that he’s applying to future positions that he predicts they will need.

If you are going to companies and making propositions for new job positions that do not exist, you will definitely stick out (hopefully for good reasons as opposed to bad).  The IT managers at the corporation may begin thinking about whether they will need someone in that role down the line and may even consider you first over others.  It might be a stretch, but at least the foresight might set you apart from the competition.

The Information Technology industry is a constantly changing environment that is always looking for the latest best/most efficient software or hardware.  Therefore, it’s up to you to stay current with what new technologies and gadgets have been introduced to the public.  This will allow you to better predict what types of IT jobs that IT recruiting companies and direct clients will be sourcing for in the near future.   This may just help you stand apart from the competition and land that perfect new IT job.
